(my grandparents)

Now, almost 40 years later, I still walk among the Hereford herds on Old Fall Creek.  And even though work took Dad and me away from the farm from time to time, we still share my grandfather's love for the breed.

Through the years, Dad has built a repeat customer base from the commercial breeders in the area.  He has always maintained a strong producing herd with bloodline foundations from Beckley Polled Herefords, Botkin Polled Herefords and other hereford breeders in Kentucky.

Since I started managing the herd a few years ago, we have introduced other great bloodlines such as DR World Class 517 10H, PW Victor Boomer P606, and Star OBF Bogart 5L.

As Lifetime Members of the American Hereford Association, we particpate in the Whole Herd TPR Program.  We are members of the Kentucky Hereford Association and are Beef Quality Assurance Certified through the Kentucky Cattlemen's Association.  We keep a strong producing herd and continue to strive for improvement.  After all, the love for the Hereford breed has been in the family for generations.

Thank you for stopping by.  I hope that you enjoy this glimpse into our part of the world.

As a small boy, I remember spending my summer days and any spare time I could find with my grandparents.  They lived just across the road so it was easy to sneak off to the garden with Granny, help do laundry on the old ringer washer or canning those cucumber pickles I loved so much.

But my favorite was spending time with Grandpa and his Hereford cattle.  After lunch we would go to the old crib, grab a half dozen nubbins of corn and head down the lane to the pastures.  My bare feet stepped quick to keep up as we walked through the fields among the cattle. I remember one cow in particular, Old Forty.  She got her name from the ID tag in her ear but to me it could have easily been her age.  She was Grandpa's favorite, recieving half the nubbins we carried with us. That is when I began to learn how to be around cattle, how to treat them and respect them, how to walk among them or herd them.  I learned a great deal from that tall man with the stout expression and loving hand, just by watching him and his Herefords.  And with every trip back across the road, I took what I learned home to our own Hereford herd.
